Union leaders have raised fears of hundreds more jobs being lost to India. They have learnt that a call centre dealing with rail inquiries is to close in the New Year. The news comes as other union chiefs were meeting managers at insurance group Aviva to oppose its plan to cut 2,350 jobs and switch work to India. In India, labour costs are around 40% cheaper than in this country. Cheap labour The call centre in Cardiff, South Wales, will close in March, threatening redundancies among the 400 workers. The Transport Salaried Staffs Association is seeking urgent talks with Serco, which runs it. Workers at the call centre in Cardiff deal with calls to the national rail inquiry service as well as providing travel information about rail services across the country.
