Integrated Call Center for Emergency Helpline |
A first of its kind integrated call center has been launched in India. Until now there have been different numbers to call an ambulance, call police, a fire brigade etc. But now a single number 108 can be used to call for any kind of emergency help. This initiative has been taken by Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi. The inbound Call Center for these services has connected more than 655 police and fire stations.
A training was conducted of more than 4,335 personnel was also conducted so that they can function efficiently as call center agents for this emergency inbound call center. The number 108 is already popular as the number for ambulances in the region. People would call in the case of accidents or emergency illness. But now the users can call this number in any eventuality like a crime, or a disaster. This model of having an integrated call center and an emergency toll-free number must be emulated throughout the country. However having an inbound call center for entire country would be an arduous task. Phone answering for a billion plus population would require an equally large number of trained call center agents. The Chief Minister said "The integrated service will go a long way in providing timely relief to affected people at the time of exigencies." |
