On discovery of this malpractice, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) which is the statutory authority, swung into action. An investigation was held, after which it was ascertained that the people who had registered in the Do Not Call list of ACMA were also called. After which, Heritage Finance Solutions was forced to pay the monetary fine of $17,000. Such a strict implementation by the authorities has ensured that people with DNC registration have seen a drop of 88% in the quantity of telemarketing calls they receive.

 

India also has a similar National Do Not Call Registry wherein people who don’t want to receive any tele-marketing calls can register themselves. The Call Centers of India have been mostly compliant of these lists and not many cases of violation of DNC list have been reported here.
